Speaking God's Love to a Broken World

Are you tired of the destruction that gossip is doing in your own heart, your family, your community, your nation, your Church today? How many times do we come away from a gossip session wishing truly with all our hearts that we had had the courage to just walk away? We never come away from such gossip sessions feeling good about ourselves. Through his whole epistle in the NEW TESTAMENT of the HOLY BIBLE Saint James says that the one who curbs his tongue is "a perfect man!"
"1:19 Know this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to hear; slow to speak, slow to wrath, 1:20 for the wrath of a man does not accomplish the righteousness of God... 1:26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, his religion is vain... 2:12 So speak and so act as people who will be judged by the law of freedom. 2:13 For the judgement is merciless to one who has not shown mercy... 3:2 for we all fall short in many respects. If anyone does not fall short in speech, he is a perfect man, able to bridle his whole body also. 3:3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we also guide their whole bodies. 3:4 It is the same with ships: even though they are so large and driven by fierce winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot's inclination wishes. 3:5 In the same way the tongue is a small member and yet has great pretensions. Consider how small a fire can set a huge forest ablaze. 3:6 The tongue is also a fire. It exists among our members as a world of malice, defiling the whole body and setting the entire course of our lives on fire, itself set on fire by Gehenna. 3:7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, 3:8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 3:9 With it we bless the Lord and Father; and with it we curse human beings who are made in the likeness of God. 3:10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. This need not be so, my brothers. 3:11 Does a spring gush forth from the same opening both pure and brackish water? 3:12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, produce olives, or a grapevine figs? Neither can salt water yield fresh. 3:13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show his works by a good life in the humility that comes from wisdom. 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 3:15 Wisdom of this kind does not come down from above but is earthly; unspiritual, demonic. 3:16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice. 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace... 4:11 Do not speak evil of one another; brothers. Whoever speaks evil of a brother or judges his brother speaks evil of the law and judges the law. If you judge the law; you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 4:12 There is one lawgiver and judge who is able to save or to destroy. Who then are you to judge your neighbor?"

Several years ago, in our Summer Days of Prayer, we adopted the Saint PATRICK'S ROSARY as a way of curbing our own tongues from all the destructive gossip of our day. Specifically, we said that we really have two choices in today's world, today's Church, today's families ... we can choose to use our tongues to gossip, or to pray. With the SAINT PATRICK'S ROSARY we added an extra 'Hail Mary' at the end of each decade to pray for priests. Instead of using our tongues to join in today's gossip sessions against priests, we decided to use our tongues to pray for priests! The SAINT PATRICK'S ROSARY proved a double gift for us — it kept us from joining in the gossip sessions that so afflict our society, our families, our Church ... today, and it filled our hearts with the peace of prayer instead of the destruction of gossip.

After those Summer Days of Prayer we decided to 'advertise' the SAINT PATRICK'S ROSARY on our website and in our newsletter, hoping that perhaps many others from our worldwide family might choose to join us with prayerful tongues! Our hopes were realized far beyond our expectations! Hundreds have already requested the SAINT PATRICK'S ROSARY brochure, and even more have clamored for us to come up with a Rosary with that eleventh bead on each decade. The following summer, while talking with a dear, dear metal caster, Anita Romanelli, of Providence, Rhode Island, the inspiration of our Rosary Crucifix (with 11 beads on it!) answered their calls! How many of you, our dear readers, are already using that SAINT PATRICK'S ROSARY CRUCIFIX to help convert your own tongues from gossip to prayer! God bless you in your prayer!

Now, my loved ones, I'd like to invite you to take one more step with me ... Can we commit ourselves to this prayerful way of life right where we are - in our homes, our work places, our schools, our hospital beds, wherever? Would you prayerfully consider joining us in our brand new 'APOSTOLATE OF PRAYERFUL TONGUES'? Members of A.P.T. as we call our Apostolate, will join with all other members around the world twice each day. In our Morning Prayer each day all A.P.T. members, wherever they are in this world, will pray our Saint Patrick's Rosary, remembering to pray for priests on that eleventh bead of each decade, and asking our Blessed Mother Mary at each decade, 'MOTHER MARY, PLEASE HELP ME TO SEE GOD'S LOVE FOR ME TODAY!"
How wonderful, how truly FANTASTIC, how lovingly supportive it will be to know that we are all beginning our days together in the same prayerful way. Members' Night Prayer each day will consist of a two-fold prayerful examination. First, each member will prayerfully recall the ways we have used our tongues that day in destructive gossip instead of in loving prayer. And then, as we prayerfully express our sorrow to the Lord, we pray another Hail Mary asking our Blessed Mother Mary, "MOTHER MARY, PLEASE HELP ME TO SEE GOD'S LOVE FOR ME TODAY!" I am truly convinced that the more we see God's love for us, the more we will truly love Him, with our tongues and with our whole lives.

Please consider becoming a member of A.P.T. All members will receive a Certificate of Membership, a St. Patrick's Rosary Crucifix and our 16 page booklet with complete instructions and prayers. Please fill out the form below and return it to us so we can enroll you today as a praying member of A.P.T.
